Hot vs Cold Water Pressure Washing Comparison :
Power washing can be a significant asset in both commercial and industrial applications, keeping job sites, facilities, equipment, machinery and business spaces clean and sanitary. Hot water will sanitize a contaminated area and is effective at removing oil, grease, and gum. If you’re facing dirty surfaces inside, outside, or both, the right pressure washer can make all the difference. With the ability to blast away unwanted dirt, grime and messes of all shapes and sizes, a pressure washer shaves hours off the course of cleaning, saving you time, money and energy.

Pressure washers are also proven to be effective at removing the invasive zebra mussel from boats and other watercraft.
Differences Between Hot & Cold
The type of material that you are washing will ultimately determine the need for either a Hot Water pressure washer or a Cold Water pressure washer. There are both “chemistry” and “physics” that come into play here.
- Chemistry changes the properties of the target being washed. Hot water (in excess of 165 degrees) will get oil/grease/gum/etc moving thus allowing the cleaning process to go faster.
- Physics is the actual GPM (Gallons per minute) and PSI (pounds per square inch) that is being applied. The higher the volume of water (GPM) the more material you can move. The higher the PSI the more impact you will have.

Hot Water Pressure Washer Hot water pressure washers clean faster and deeper than cold water and are especially effective in removing grease, grime and oil. Hot water pressure washers typically generate a spray of 180° F or higher. While even hotter water is sometimes needed (steam), it has been proven that hot water under pressure cleans faster and better than steam (low pressure).
Cold Water Pressure Washer Pressure washing with cold water is adequate for some applications. Hot water will always clean faster, especially where greasy and oily surfaces must be cleaned. The addition of detergents (also known as chemicals or soaps) which have been formulated especially for pressure washers will enhance cold water cleaning
